Purple People Bridge

Experiential Design Studio Project – August 2022

The point of the Purple People Bridge: to connect people on both sides of the Ohio river and encourage everyone to explore all the amenities of Downtown Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky. This bridge belongs to the people.

However, the people wish to have shaded seating with clear visability of the water and skylines as well as know more about the history of both Cincinnati, Nortern Kentucy, the Ohio river and the bridge itself in an educational and interactive way. Unfortunately, the current bridge amenties do not offer this to the community.

Initial Concepts

Option 1

A flexible community park that reflects the materially of the bridge while taking inspiration from the organic flowing Ohio river. This park would include individual and group seating with shade, interactive elements for kids that touches on the surrounding history, and an elevated unobstructed view of the water.

This concept is driven by the history of the Ohio River, Cincinnati, and Newport. After doing user research a lot of the community did not realize the purple people bridge is a historic landmark. A timeline reaching from Ohio to Kentucky would educate the people living in both states, while creating an interactive experience.
