Background

Raising the bar on sustainable products, while rinsing away all of your existing knowledge on how we take care of ourselves!

Sustainability is an issue that impacts all people. In order for a sustainable product to flourish it must be inclusive and appeal to all sectors of the market. Therefore, we decided to design a product that all genders, races, and ages use: personal care products. So, what do you think of when you hear personal care? Quiet time in the bath, face masks with the girls, or a cold shower after a steamy gym sesh. Well, we think of waste; water waste, and of course plastic waste. Our brand has a clear mission that combines the importance of taking care of ourselves and staying healthy, while ensuring we do the same for our planet. It’s simple, use cleaner products and have a cleaner future. 

After researching the current market and understanding existing frustrations, we began to define our opportunity areas. We determined that our design goals are the following: a product that is eco-friendly, easy to use, reusable, and gender neutral.

Our design is a bar shampoo, conditioner, and soap solution that all exists in one unified form. Our product system includes three containers that can be rearranged to fit your personal shower routine, and an applicator in the form of a scalp massager for an easy transfer of product to your hair. The scalp massaging tool also promotes hair health and growth. This new product also utilizes a refillable system by allowing the consumer to reuse the bar containers, and only repurchasing the bar shampoo, bar conditioner, and bar soap as needed. This ensures that little to no waste is created by repurchasing our products throughout their lifetime. 

After designing this product, we began ideating a brand name, considering clear company beliefs and missions as well as brand packaging. We decided on the name Rinse. The definition of rinse is to wash (something) with clean water to remove soap, detergent, dirt, or impurities. So, the idea of rinsing away the dirt or the “bad.” Our company is rinsing away any of the existing preconceptions on how we wash ourselves, while also washing away the environmental harms existing practices cause. 

Rinse is a collection of all-gender, sustainable personal care products created with the belief that, now more than ever, nothing is more important to humanity than our unified health and wellbeing. Our brand is invested in bridging the gap between products specified for a single gender which will reduce the amount of both manufacturing and purchasing needed, resulting in a more inclusive system that is also sustainable.
